Abstract

|
Tocolytic, agents have been used to prevent preterm labor. Additionally, they are also used in a-i acute intrapartiun fetal distress, edenzal cephalic version, cervical cerclage. intrauterine growth retardation or in reducing the bleeding from placenta previa.
For tocolytic agents, pmgestabonal compounds, betamimetic agents, ethanol, antiprostacglandin agents and oxytoc n or vasopressin antagonists are available at present.
The most common cause of neonatal death is prematurity. It consists of about 75% in U.S.A..
To reduce the neonatal death rate, preterm delivery must be prevented theoretically.
In this paper I reviewed, at first, the mechanism of contraction of uterine smooth muscle, and then the action mechanisrns, adverse effects, indications, and contraindications of available tocolytic agents.
